Immunotherapy Training | Bespoke E-Learning for NHS Staff

Client: UCLH NHS Foundation Trust

Case Study Overview: Enhancing Cancer Education through E-Learning

EL Healthcare Education partnered with UCLH NHS Foundation Trust to create four bite-sized immunotherapy e-learning modules for secondary care staff.

The project aimed to enhance awareness of immunotherapy treatments and support pharmacists, junior medics, nurses, and A&E personnel in identifying key clinical issues related to immunotherapy patient management.

This initiative was co-designed with content specialists and funded through an Independent Medical Education Grant from Pfizer Limited, ensuring high-quality, evidence-based digital learning resources tailored for healthcare professionals to lead patient care improvement.

Objectives: Addressing Key Challenges in Immunotherapy Education

Provide a clear understanding of immunotherapy treatments for secondary care professionals.

Enable real-world application of immunotherapy knowledge through interactive case studies.

Develop engaging, flexible digital online learning materials to fit busy clinical schedules.

Improve healthcare professionals’ ability to recognise and manage immunotherapy-related side effects.

Our Approach: Co-Designed Learning for Maximum Impact

Collaborative Course Design

Using our custom learning design workshop, EL Healthcare Education worked with UCLH NHS Foundation Trust content specialists to:

  • Define clear learning objectives and structured course content.

  • Identify key learner needs and develop engaging, practical activities.

  • Create a collaborative storyboard reviewed by stakeholder groups before development.

This approach ensured that the bespoke e-learning solutions aligned with real-world clinical scenarios.

The Solution: Digital Learning Materials for Immunotherapy Training

Animations for Healthcare Training

A crucial component of this training was to simplify complex immunotherapy principles using scientific animations. These animations made it easier for learners to grasp mechanisms of action, immune responses, and side effects.

Interactive Case Studies

Case studies were central to the learning experience, offering hands-on clinical decision-making. Learners were guided by a virtual immunotherapy bot character, enabling them to:

  • Apply knowledge in patient management scenarios.

  • Practice using clinical guidance effectively.

  • Experience real-world simulations in a safe, interactive environment.

Modular Learning Materials

To enhance accessibility, the course was designed with bite-sized, self-paced modules that could be accessed on mobile devices. This format ensured flexibility for busy medical professionals.

  • Interactive Games for learning: An engaging game simulated real-life scenarios, allowing learners to practice identifying and addressing depression in older people through storytelling and dialogue.

  • Enhanced retention and engagement through interactive learning methods.

  • Positive feedback on flexibility and ease of access on mobile-friendly platforms providing long-term benefits.

“Your expertise in healthcare education sets you apart from other e-learning providers. Your understanding of the content and the healthcare setting enables you to create high-quality learning. Your knack for transforming content into captivating online courses is truly outstanding.”
